Jeremiah 17:9 (NIV)

9 The heart is deceitful above all things
       and beyond cure.
       Who can understand it?

  1. Soon as the evil comes into the mind is the time to fight it. Ephesians 6:10-18
If you nurture the evil until it comes into your heart and soul,it becomes a stronghold only Jesus can root it out.
2Corinthians 10 3-6. We have to take the lies of the devil and replace them with the Truth, The Way and The Life.

  2. The rhetorical question here is an interesting one. Who can understand the heart? The implication is that we as human being cannot. This is a commonly forgotten truth. We tend to think of the heart as a good thing. However the writer here see's it as deceitful above all things and without a cure. I wonder why? Thinking back to past relationships, it starts to make sense. Have you ever felt "In Love" with the wrong person and couldn't shake the feelings?

  3. Joshua, if the heart is the essence and soul of man, it is deceitful. Thus said the LORD in
Genesis 8: 21 "Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of heart is evil from childhood."
The operative word you said is 'feelings'.

  4. In the context in which I was using the word, 'felt' the feelings of the individual would have been the outcome of that person's desire/will. I believe that the heart has more of a central role in a person's desire/will and that feelings are just a by-product. For example, if I take the story of Samson. In Judges 16:4 it says that Samson fell in love with Delilah. And we know that this immense desire Samson had for Delilah eventually would cause his imprisonment and humiliation before the Philistines. Though Samson must have saw the trap again and again, his deceitful heart was beyond cure.
